TRAIL DUST WITH DR. ED ON THE ROAD!

Greetings from the trial that the Lord has faithfully led us along in the last few months. I am now 62 years old and this has been the busiest year of my ministry. I began preaching on November 26, 1961, so I have passed my 40th year trying to serve the Lord in this capacity. I can tell any young preacher that the Lord keeps blessing and blessing. There is nothing I can think of that is better than what the Lord let’s me do.

SEPTEMBER

September 5-8, I was with Bro. Jack Talbert at Bible Baptist Church in Greenwood, MS. Bros. Scott and Irwin came and brought people. They had a fish fry the last day that really rang my bell. We enjoyed the fellowship with all in that area and had a great time.

September 16-18, Bro. Van Bunch and I loaded the truck and trailer and headed north to distribute goods and preach. We made stops and left literature, clothes, and food for the winter on three Sioux reservations in South Dakota. It was good to visit these brethren if only for a short time. They work hard in adverse situations and I know they need our prayers.

Traveling along, we went on over to Sidney, Nebraska and preached three nights for Bro. Lee Dotson at Grace Baptist Church. We really had a great time in that place. What a blessing those people are to us, each year, by coming all the way from there to our Preacher’s Meeting in April.

From there, we journeyed farther North up to the Colville Reservation, just north of the Grand Coulee Dam in Washington State. There, we preached for them Sunday through Wednesday night, enjoying the fellowship of old friends and making a few new ones as well. After over 5300 miles we returned home!

OCTOBER

October 8-11, found me with Pastor Jimmy Walters at Navajo Baptist Temple in Shiprock, NM. That was my first time there. I really enjoyed being with them and with the Bobby Harjo Family, or I should say Tribe, with all the kids they have. They went over their missions’ goal and it was a joy to be able to help them in that area. Bro. O’Neil Shelton raised money for a steeple for their church. We later took them the steeple and a van. We made day trips hauling Christmas gifts for the boys, girls and adults in Gallup and Thoreau, NM and Granada, AZ. It was a busy time but a good one.

October 19-21, Bro. Perry Irwin and I were at Clifftop Baptist Church in Beaver, WV. Bro. Renegar was in the hospital, so we filled in.

October 22-25, Traveled along the trail to Hampton, VA for a meeting with Harbor Baptist Church and Bro. Roy Finchum. We always have a great time there. It was just like going home. Bro. Perry’s music was a particular blessing on that trip.

NOVEMBER

November 12-16, found us at First Baptist Church in Moran Kansas. I love country churches, and brother, take my word for it, that one is country. Such nice people and what a good time we had in their homes. Bro. Larry Osborne and a vanload of his folks came one night from Osawatomie and brought a trailer loaded with food for us to haul home with us. That was a real blessing. We have several interested in going to Mexico with us in February and that will be a real blessing to me. I was able to get a lot of outline writing done while I was there and it helps to be able to try to stay up with the office here.

November 25-28, I hit the trail again, to Gillespie, IL and picked up Bro. Ray Ditch and we took off for a flying trip to Canada to leave a load of things and to visit with Bro. Ron Burning a short time. Then back on the trail, again, to Buffalo, NY, and on down to Erie, PA where we picked up a load of paper on the trailer and then headed home. We made it all in three days by staying under the wheel for long periods of time. Thank God for a good truck that does not wear you out to drive long miles pulling a load.

DECEMBER

We sent a gooseneck trailer loaded with pews, chairs, medical equipment and Christmas presents to Zapata Texas for Bro. Abbott to take across the border for us. It is for all the works there. We had to take two trucks and trailers to get it all at one time. Bro. Charlie Woodard helped us a great deal with that load. I had to stay behind to do a funeral, so I missed that trip.

December 10-11, Along the dusty trail again to Galesburg, IL to pick up a load of supplies.

December 17-23, Back on the trail to Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico to preach and perform the wedding of Susanna Reyes in her dad’s church on Saturday night.

December 23, On the home trail Sunday morning, heading home for Christmas. Preaching stopover in Saltillo on the way out of Mexico.

December 24-25, Home for Christmas, enjoying family (grandson and kids) and all of God’s Blessings. Thank You Lord!

Let me take this opportunity to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and thank you from the bottom of my heart for the support and help you give our work all year long. Pray for us. The loads are getting bigger and farther apart. We just have to keep going, and with your help and prayers we shall.

PRAISE THE LORD FOR OUR NEW 20-FOOT GOOSENECK TRAILER!
